Measure of Success

Completed Projects 2015

Lambton, Alder Park:  This project involved the provision of shared pathway through Alder Park, running from Bridges Road through to St James Road.  Linemarking in front of New Lambton South Public School and a new shared path between Mackie Avenue and Errington Avenue connects the Alder Park works to the R4 regional cycleway.

Merewether Heights, Scenic Drive:  The project involved provision of a cyclist refuge and crossing on Scenic Drive, west of Sun Hill Drive and extension of the existing shared path on the southern side of Scenic Drive by approximately 150m.

Wallsend, Brickworks Park Stage 1:  The project involved the provision of approximately 350m of shared path in Brickworks Park, running from Iranda Grove through Brickworks Park to Victory Parade.  Future works include extension of the path along Victory Parade.  The completion of the project has resulted in the establishment of a safe cycling connection between southern parts of Wallsend and Elermore Vale to Newcastle's key east-west route (Wallsend to Newcastle City Centre).

Completed Projects 2016

Inner City bike lanes Section 1: Construction of 450m of off-road shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway on the northern side of Donald Street between Samdon Street and Beaumont Street. This section provides an important link in Council’s Inner City Bike Lanes Project, which will deliver an off-road shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway along the northern side of Griffith and Donald streets from Jackson Street to Selma Street in Hamilton.

Islington Park shared path: Completion of a shared pathway through Islington Park was upgraded to improve the existing cycling and walking infrastructure and increase user safety.

Scholey Street Bridge, Islington: Construction of a shared pathway cantilevered above the existing retaining wall between Nelson Street, Wallsend and the pathway at the Silsoe Street, Hamilton stairs, and a pedestrian/cyclist refuge near Nelson Street, Wallsend. This allows pedestrians and westbound cyclists to cross Scholey Street, Mayfield at the end of the shared pathway.

Park Avenue shared pathway: Construction of a shared path on the northern side of Park Avenue, Kotara, between Northcott Drive and Kullaiba Road, and on the southern side of Park Avenue between Lexington Avenue and the regional cycleway at Kullaiba Road.

Richmond Vale Rail Trail: In conjunction with Cessnock and Lake Macquarie Councils, we are continuing the concept design phase and approvals process for a 32km cycleway from Shortland to Tarro and Hexham to Kurri Kurri. The concept design consultation phase with the community is now complete.

Victory Parade combined crossing: Construction of a combined pedestrian-cycle crossing on Victory Parade in Wallsend was completed at the end of June 2016. The upgraded crossing enables cyclists from southern parts of Wallsend and Elermore Vale to access the Wallsend to Newcastle City cycleway at Jesmond Park via the shared pathway through Wallsend Brickworks Park.
