An Accessible and Welcoming Event
VIP Sensory Area for People with Disabilities
At Newcastle City Council, we are working hard to make our events more accessible for everyone in our community. We understand that for some people, getting to and around events can be a challenge. So this NYE we are trying something new.
Local artist Bliss Cavanagh will create a safe and magical sensory experience for people with disabilities and their families to enjoy. We've called it our VIP Sensory Area as we think everyone we are inviting are Very Important People!
The area will provide a base for people to come and go from to enjoy the whole event, or a safe area to relax in and enjoy the sensory wonderland of artistic creations. Situated nice and close to the harbour, you will be able to sit back and watch the 9pm fireworks in comfort.
Please note; the VIP Sensory Area does not provide a viewing point to the Concert stage area of the event, the space is set aside to allow for an accessible observation point of the fireworks and as a base for people to enjoy the overall event.
This is an outdoor event, the VIP Sensory area does not provide shelter from rain or wind. As the event will be commencing from 5:30pm there will be some natural shade from trees located within the area however consideration about protection from the elements is highly recommended.
We have been amazed by the overwhelming responce to this pilot project and bookings are now closed.
For more information about our VIP Sensory Area contact Bliss Cavanagh on 0415 701188 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Including YOU Tent

The VIP Sensory Area will have an accessible toilet positioned within the space. This toilet will be a portable toilet. Other toilets are positioned throughout the event.
Seating within the event is 'bring your own' or at ground level. Within the VIP Sensory Area some seating will be provided subject to discussion via the registration process.
Event signage will be in place on the day to assist you navigate the space, however printing out the event map prior to the day may assist you with enjoying the range of available activities.
In the event of an emergency event staff will follow the event evacuation plan which includes consideration of people with disabilities attending the event.
