Steel and tin

Smoke alarms contain a small amount of radioactive material and should be returned to the manufacturer where possible.

You can also safely dispose of them at any Household Chemical Clean Out event or Community Recycling Centre.

Steel and tin cans can be placed in your yellow lid recycling bin. You do not need to wash them first but please make sure there is no food or liquid in them.

Larger steel and tin items can be taken to local metal recyclers. Scrap metal is also accepted free of charge at Summerhill Waste Management Centre.
