Festive Season Household Recycling Drop-Off

Cards, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes and empty bottles can quickly fill up household recycling bins over the Christmas to New Year period.

Newcastle residents can drop off excess  household recyclables at Summerhill Waste Management Centre, free of charge, from Monday 18 December 2017 to Sunday 7 January 2018 (inclusive) - please see below for landfill operating hours.

To qualify for the free drop-off, cardboard boxes/packaging must be separated from other households recyclables, and loads must not be contaminated with non-recyclable items such as styrofoam and soft plastic wrapping.

Please note the free service is for Newcastle residents only and is for domestic amounts of household recyclables i.e. no commercial quantities.  Normal disposal fees will apply for non-residents and commercial customers, and for disposal of materials outside of the above time period (minimum charges start at $9 for separated recyclables and $19 for mixed recyclables).
 

Festive Season Landfill Operating Hours

Summerhill Waste Management Centre will be closed on Christmas Day. Summerhill will be open on all other days during the festive period to ensure that the community has access to recycling and waste disposal services. To reduce customer waiting times, opening hours will be extended to 4pm on weekends from 23 December 2017 to 7 January 2018 inclusive.
 
  • Christmas Day: Closed
  • Boxing Day and New Year's Day: 9am-3pm
  • Normal weekdays: 7.30am-5pm
  • Weekends: 9am-3pm (9am-4pm weekends from 23 December 2017 to 7 January 2018 inclusive).
