Changes at our facilities

There have been several changes at our venues and facilities:

Blackbutt Reserve 

Playgrounds, walking trails, open spaces, shelters, kiosk and barbecues at Blackbutt Reserve are open from 18 May 2020. The animal enclosures remain closed to public access, to ensure physical distancing measures continue. Find out more about Blackbutt Reserve.

City Administration 

The Customer Service Centre at 12 Stewart Avenue is closed. The customer service team are still available to assist you via phone, webchat or customer request form. Find out more the City of Newcastle Administration.

City Hall

Function rooms located within City Hall and the Fort Scratchley Function Centre are now available for hire, with COVIDSafe plans in place to ensure the safety of attendees. Find out more about venues to hire.

Civic Theatre

The Civic Theatre will reopen its doors to the public from 27 July 2020. Audience numbers will be capped in the Civic Theatre and The Playhouse to allow physical distancing. Find out more about the Civic Theatre.

Fort Scratchley

Fort Scratchely will be reopening from 4 July 2020 on Saturdays and Sundays only. Find out more about Fort Scratchley.

Newcastle Art Gallery

Newcastle Art Gallery will open from Tuesday 2 June 2020. Visitor numbers will be capped to allow physical distancing. There will be two sessions per day. Bookings are essential to reserve a spot in one of the daily sessions. Find out more about the Art Gallery.

Newcastle Libraries

Newcastle (City), Mayfield, New Lambton, Adamstown, Beresfield, Hamilton, Wallsend* and Stockton branches are now open. Express visitation guidelines apply. Please check website for revised opening hours. Find out more about the libraries.

* Strictly as a precaution, Wallsend Library was temporarily closed following a public health alert from NSW Health. We are closely monitoring the public health alerts for our Local Government Area and will re-open Wallsend Library on Thursday 6 August 2020.

Newcastle Museum

Newcastle Museum will reopen to the public on 23 June 2020, however the facility’s interactive attractions will remain closed for safety in line with State guidelines. ​Find out more the museum.

Visitor Information Centre

The Visitor Information Centre will open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
