DINOSAUR rEVOLUTION brings amazing beasts to Newcastle Museum

27 Oct 2017

If you thought you knew dinosaurs, think again!

DINOSAUR rEVOLUTION: Secrets of Survival, a new exhibition opening Saturday 28 October at Newcastle Museum, may change your outlook on these amazing beasts.

Research suggests that many dinosaurs, long thought of as having lizard-like skin that was gray, green or brown, may actually have been covered with spikes, quills, horns and feathers, many with brilliant colours. This exhibition provides us with a glimpse of the true, bizarre and complex nature of the evolution of the Dinosauria.

We are breaking the mould with this Dinosaur rEvolution, which features life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, fossils and more!

"This blockbuster exhibition is kicking off a summer of fun events and activities here in Newcastle," said Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes. "It provides a great opportunity for families to come into the CBD and make a day of it with a visit to the Museum, a walk or bike ride through Honeysuckle and along the Foreshore, and perhaps lunch at one of our lovely cafes. There is so much to see and do in our city."

Numerous dinosaurs and fossils are well represented and spectacularly mounted in this
exhibition. The exhibits are backed with images and murals of the dinosaur species, fully fleshed, feathered and restored in living and breathing colours.

DINOSAUR rEVOLUTION will appeal to families, dinosaur enthusiasts and educational groups alike. Children will love the life-like animatronic dinosaurs on display.

"In this exhibition, like many here at the Museum, it's okay to explore new ideas and shake up what you thought you knew," said Museum Manager Julie Baird. "Children are naturally fascinated by dinosaurs, and they will be amazed at the rich natural history specimens in this exhibition as well as the animatronics and large number of colourful artworks that illustrate scenes or 'windows' into dinosaur life."

"You'll see fearsome feathered dinosaurs that sometimes reached gigantic proportions in the shape of Tyrannosaurus and outlandish, massive creatures with gigantic claws like the newly rediscovered Deinocheirus, reconstructed in this exhibition for the first time in full."

DINOSAUR rEVOLUTION is a travelling exhibition created by Gondwana Studios, which brought us the Permian Monsters exhibition, in collaboration with artist and illustrator Luis V. Rey, who is known for his innovative dinosaur artwork.
