From the energising stories of community spirit and resilience; to the widening gaps in society that are increasing hardship and disadvantage for so many; to the incredible innovation that is being fostered – the paradoxes were and are many and varied.
As we find solutions to current challenges, more questions emerge. We are ‘all in this together’ but we are not equally affected by this global challenge to the human experience. What lies ahead for women at home and in the workforce? What impact is isolation having on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities? How do we maintain our individual and collective mental health and wellbeing in these complex times?
The University of Newcastle is looking ahead and committed to solving small and big challenges in our regions. We are empowered by our platforms in teaching, research and engagement – and by our opportunity to live our values of excellence, equity, sustainability and engagement. Together as fellow citizens we can navigate our way through this unique time. And the University of Newcastle is dedicated to being a partner in seeing our regions thrive into the future.
