We're offering free Wi-Fi in the East End and CBD. We've connected 60 of the City’s 150 smart poles, with plans to install more poles across the City, as well as Beresfield and Wallsend, soon. To log on to the free high speed Wi-Fi network, look for ‘City of Newcastle free Wi-Fi’ in your network settings. No password is required.

We’re introducing a new version of street lighting in all future developments of shopping precincts – known as smart poles, the sleek, black poles perform a range of smart city functions. This includes providing access to power, which makes it easy for event managers to create vibrant and activated spaces.
Find out what’s happening in the city via new digital touch screens soon to be installed at Market Street Lawn and Museum Place. Promoting the latest news, events and nearby attractions, our new smart screens allow us to share information with residents and visitors.
City of Newcastle App
We’re developing a digital solution to provide information on a single platform that helps residents and visitors get the most from our city. Coupling exciting emerging technologies, such as augmented reality with geo-location and real-time city information, the City App will bring the stories and places of the city to life, helping everyone discover Newcastle.
Our indigenous dual-name interpretive signs will soon feature augemented reality, where you can learn about the story of place through an interactive experience of a real-world environment. The indigenous elders appear on your phone in 3D, enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, to bring the interpetive sign to life. Sound confusing? You'll have to see it to believe it.
We'll also be launching augemented reality through a number of other spaces, providing another avenue to share information in a digitally savvy world.
Our libraries boast a variety of innovative activities as part of their makerspace program to enhance our digital transformation. Check their website
