Completed projects

Since commencing the Cycleways Program as one of our priority projects we have completed various upgrades and projects across the city which are encouraging recreational riding as well as making riding a viable transport option for commuting and other short trips. A selection of the projects include:

  • New shared pathway through Alder Park from Bridges Road through to St James Road and a new shared path between Mackie Avenue and Errington Avenue, connecting Alder Park to the R4 regional cycleway 
  • Extension of shared path at Scenic Drive, Merewether Heights and new cyclist refuge and crossing at Merewether Heights
  • New shared path in Brickworks Park, and combined pedestrian-cycle crossing on Victory Parade, establishing a safe cycling connection between southern parts of Wallsend and Elermore Vale to Newcastle's key east-west route
  • New shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway in Hamilton on the northern side of Donald Street between Samdon Street and Selma Street
  • Completion of a shared pathway through Islington Park
  • New shared pathway on Scholey Street bridge, Islington
  • New shared path along Park Avenue, Kotara connecting the R4 cycleway at Kullaiba Road to Bridges Road
    Construction of a shared path in Broadmeadow connect Hunter Stadium to Griffiths Road
  • Shared path circuit around Lambton Park
  • Replacement of the shared pathway between Lambton Road and Hunter Stadium
  • Major cycleway works are also integral to the Coastal Revitilisation and City Centre Revitilisation priority projects
