Bathers Way

The Bathers Way links Newcastle's beaches from Merewether Ocean Baths to Nobbys Beach. It is 6km long and forms part of the Great North Walk from Merewether Ocean Baths to Sydney.

The Bathers Way is a fantastic way to discover our coastline and we are building a new 4 to 6 metre wide shared path which is now half way complete. The Bathers Way is great for walkers, runners, scooters and everyone in between.

The Bathers Way commands sweeping views of the coastline and connects to the popular Newcastle Memorial Walk. The Bathers Way provides access to all the beaches along this stretch of coast and along the path there are viewing platforms, seating and shade.

We have finished building half of the Bathers Way, here is a snapshot of what we have done so far.

Merewether Beach to Dixon Park

This section of the Bathers Way is complete and is an easy, flat walk for all ages and abilities.

Dixon Park to Bar Beach

This section of the Bathers Way is complete and has a steep hill section north of Dixon Park Surf Club at The Cliff. This section is slightly more challenging.

Bar Beach to South Newcastle Beach

This section of the Bathers Way has not yet been upgraded, however there is a continuous paved footway along this section. It is a varied surface type and width.

Newcastle to Nobbys

This section of the Bathers Way is now complete. There is a hill in this section south of Newcastle Ocean Baths but the remainder of the path is flat.
