Exhibition: More Than Sport - Culture and Connection in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community

Saturday 4 November 2023 - 24 February 2024
45 days from now
Open during Local History Library hours

Deaf Sports Australia welcomes you to the first major exhibition about the role of sport in Australian Deaf culture.

The exhibition shares stories of Deaf Sports in Australia and on the world stage. Sport has been a key motivator for people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to connect with one another for over 140 years.

Comprising photographs, objects and video footage, the exhibition will offer insights into the experiences of people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and how they have forged a sense of identity and culture through competitions and events like the Deaf Games and Deaflympics.

More Than Sport will be hosted in the Lovett Gallery from November 2023 to February 2024 and has been scheduled to coincide with the Deaf Games, which are being hosted in Newcastle in January of 2024.

Entry to the exhibition is free and is open to the public during Local History Library opening hours.
