International Day of People with Disabilities
International Day of People with Disabilities was Monday 3 December 2018 and each year its arrival provides a timely opportunity for us to reflect on how our City is progressing as an inclusive community.
While the day is usually marked with a celebration, this year we are encouraging greater inclusion and recognition of disability beyond just the one day. In 2018, more than 110 City of Newcastle staff attended training focussed on improving accessibility and disability inclusion.
In 2017, CN also established the Disability Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC) to provide greater support and recognition for people living with a disability, their families and carers. The DIAC ties in through the City's Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2016-2019, which has been encouraging greater support and recognition of disability over recent years.
