Blackbutt has an extensive volunteer program with participants being able to volunteer within:
Blackbutt Park Maintenance
Volunteers assist with a range of maintenance around Blackbutt Reserve such as:
- Mowing of turf areas
- Garden maintenance e.g weed removal, mulching
- Cleaning of paths and BBQ's.
Blackbutt Animal Care
Volunteers assist with a range of animal care and education activities such as:
- Animal diet preparation and feeding.
- Exhibit cleaning and maintenance.
- Animal husbandry.
- Environmental education.
- Public presentations/keeper talks.
- Special events/displays.
Types of volunteering Blackbutt support
- Members of the public, who wish to be a volunteer.
- TAFE students who need placement to support a TAFE course.
- High School Students who would like to do a week of work placement. (Students need to be 15 years or older).
Volunteering at Blackbutt
- We receive a high volume of requests to volunteer at Blackbutt.
- Due to this, we are unable to guarantee your application will be given a volunteer placement.
- If you do not receive an email, it means that we are unable to host you.
- Should Blackbutt be able to host you, you will receive an email to set up an interview.
- The interview is required due to working with or in proximity to captive native animals.
- High School Student work placement - we can host one student per week.
- Volunteers should be prepared to volunteer from 6:30am to 3:00pm.
