Excursions and After School Care

Blackbutt Reserve offers a range of educational experiences for children of all ages, as well as hands-on learning experiences and vacation care during the school holidays. 

School Excursions

Each program is designed to encourage practical hands on learning and enhance student knowledge on the environment and its conservation for children of all ages on a variety of subjects to fit in with the NSW primary school curriculum. Each program runs for 45 minutes and caters for up to 60 students per group. 

Blackbutt Reserve offers the following programs: 

  1. Living World - Shelter Diversity - Examining and identifying environmental shelters.
  2. Living World - Plant Diversity - Identifying different types of plants and their features.
  3. Living World - Environmental Interactions - Investigating the characteristics of living things and their proper order
  4. Living World - Animal Diversity - Identifying different types of animals and their needs.
  5. Our Australia - Identifying Australian animals and highlighting their unique adaptations to their environment.
  6. Global Environments - Rainforests - Investigating and identifying a rainforest environment.

Vacation Care

Blackbutt Reserve is the perfect spot for an excursion with animal exhibits, picnic shelters, playgrounds, bbq's and grassed areas to keep children amused for an hour or a day!

Blackbutt Reserve offers hands-on learning experiences for vacation care and community groups during the school holidays. The following programs are available for the next school holidays .

  • Richley activity - Experience a close encounter with our resident snake and go dipnetting in the pond. Located at Richley Reserve, entrance off Freyberg Street New Lambton. Maximum of 30 children per timeslot, duration 1 hour.
  • Carnley activity - Meet, touch and handle some of Blackbutt’s favourite critters, feed the emus, walk the boardwalk and find the animals on the activity sheet. Located at the main entrance to Reserve off Carnley Avenue Kotara. Maximum 50 children per timeslot, duration 30 minutes.
