Citizenship Ceremonies

City of Newcastle hosts Australian citizenship ceremonies at our City Hall.

The ceremonies, presided over by our Lord Mayor (or other delegate), mark an important milestone for people from more than 50 countries across the globe, who have chosen to call Newcastle home.

The ceremonies include a cultural performance, contemporary performances and the official citizenship pledge.

The contributions of our new citizens help shape the future of our city. Welcome to Australia. Welcome to Newcastle.

Citizenship ceremony dates

The Department of Home Affairs will contact new citizens with the details of citizenship ceremonies as they are announced. Four ceremonies are held each year at Newcastle City Hall.

The path to citizenship

Before you can become an Australian citizen you need to first contact the Department of Home Affairs to find out if you meet the criteria.

If you are eligible, you'll be asked to complete an application form, pay a fee and attend a short interview. The Department of Home Affairs will notify you (in writing) if your application is successful and contact you again to advise the date, time and location of your citizenship ceremony.

If you are a resident within the Newcastle LGA, your ceremony will take place at one of our historic venues.
