In accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and/or City of Newcastle's (CN) Community Participation Plan the below proposed development applications fall into one or more of the following categories and therefore are notified for community awareness.

  • Designated development;
  • Nominated integrated development;
  • Threatened species development;
  • Class 1 aquaculture development;
  • Potentially hazardous or potentially offensive development; or
  • Demolition in Heritage Conservation Area.

Proposed Leases

Proposed Lease for Cafe

City of Newcastle is inviting comments on a proposed lease to a hospitality operator for the operation of a food and drink premises at Foreshore Park, 7 Bond Street, Newcastle NSW 2300 (Lot 2 DP729028). The proposal is for an initial term of 5 years, with a 5-year option.

The grant of lease is subject to Division 2 of Part 2 of Chapter 6 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Interim Heritage Order Notices

14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield

  • A notice in the NSW Government Gazette was made by City of Newcastle on 1 March 2024 to place an Interim Heritage Order (IHO) on 14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield.
  • A preliminary assessment undertaken by Council’s heritage consultants concluded that the property at 14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield meets the criteria for local heritage significance and the lodgement of the Class 1 Appeal constituting a threat of harm to the property, should the appeal be upheld.
  • The effect of the IHO is to prohibit demolition or alteration of the property at 14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield until 1 March 2025. During that time Council will undertake a detailed heritage assessment, determine if the place should be listed as a heritage item under Schedule 5 of the Newcastle Local Environmental Plan 2012, and prepare a planning proposal if necessary.

22 Victoria Street, Mayfield

  • A notice in the NSW Government Gazette was made by City of Newcastle on 15 March 2024 to place an Interim Heritage Order (IHO) on 22 Victoria Street, Mayfield.
  • A preliminary assessment undertaken by Council concluded that the property at 22 Victoria Street, Mayfield meets the criteria for local heritage significance and the approval of a Complying Development Certificate (CD2024/00071/CDC-004-2004) for the 'Demolition of the existing dwelling and outbuildings' constituting a threat of harm to the property.
  • The effect of the IHO is to prohibit demolition or alteration of the property at 22 Victoria Street, Mayfield until 15 March 2025. During that time Council will undertake a detailed heritage assessment, determine if the place should be listed as a heritage item under Schedule 5 of the Newcastle Local Environmental Plan 2012, and prepare a planning proposal if necessary.

Western Corridor Road Upgrades - Public notice for varying the existing levels of a public road

Notice is hereby given, under provisions of the Roads Act 1993 Part 3, Division 3, Section 29, that City of Newcastle proposes to vary the existing levels of a public road on Longworth Avenue and Minmi Road, Wallsend.

We’re upgrading the road network within the western corridor to provide greater access for the communities of Wallsend, Minmi, Fletcher and Maryland. 

Detailed designs are currently being developed for the upgrade and widening of Minmi Road from Maryland Drive to west of the Summerhill Road roundabout, and Longworth Avenue. We plan to commence construction of these upgrades in early 2025.

Plans for the proposed changes in road levels may be viewed in person at the City of Newcastle Customer Service Centre (12 Stewart Avenue, Newcastle West) or Wallsend Library (30 Bunn Street, Wallsend).

Strategic Planning Notices

Draft Amended Planning Agreement - 10 Dangar Street Wickham.

An existing Planning Agreement was entered into for the development approved under DA2022/00448.

A Modification Application (MA2023/00397) has now been received seeking to modify the development consent for DA2022/00448 at 10 Dangar Street Wickham.

As the applicant is seeking to amend DA2022/00448, an administrative amendment must be made to the Planning Agreement to include a reference to the modification application number (MA2023/00397). 

There are no other amendments to the Planning Agreement. 

MA2023/00397 is being re-notified and exhibited concurrently with the Draft Amended Planning Agreement for 28 days.

Broadmeadow Place Strategy

Have your say on the draft Place Strategy and the Explanation of Intended Effect (first-move rezoning plan) for the Broadmeadow Regionally Significant Growth area by 5pm Wednesday 24 July 2024.

In December 2022, Broadmeadow was announced as a regionally significant growth area in the Hunter Regional Plan 2041 which sets the strategic direction for land use planning to help create vibrant and connected communities. 

City of Newcastle (CN) has been working in partnership with the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (the department) to develop the Broadmeadow Place Strategy.   

Feedback on the draft Broadmeadow Place Strategy exhibited by CN and the rezoning plan exhibited by NSW Government is open from 9am Wednesday 12 June until 5pm Wednesday 24 July 2024.
