This Collection Development Policy has been developed as a planning tool to give direction and focus to the selection and collection practice that is consistent with the Library's draft strategic plan and the overall direction, goals and objectives of the Library. This Policy provides a rationale for the development and implementation of CN's
internal and external engagement processes, in order to achieve:
2.1.1 Alignment with CN's priorities for service delivery;
2.1.2 Input into the Council's decision-making by providing mechanisms for
understanding and responding to community opinions and
2.1.3 Consistent and clear engagement practices; and
2.1.4 Enhancement of CN's reputation as an organisation that listens, responds
to and engages with residents and stakeholders while making evidencebased
2.2 The Major Events and Corporate Affairs Unit provides advice and oversight of
CN's formal community engagement activities.
2.3 This Policy in accordance with Section 8A of the Act aims to facilitate the
provision of community input and feedback to enable the Council to make
decisions and actively engage with their local communities.

are provided in the City Marketing and Engagement Strategy 2018-2021.

This Policy provides a framework for the establishment and management of City of Newcastle’s (CN) Community Grants Program (CGP) in accordance with section 356 and section 377 of the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW).

| Councillor Expenses and Facilities Policy|
The provision of expenses and facilities enables Councillors to fulfil their civic duties as the elected representatives of City of Newcastle (CN).
Expenses and facilities provided by this Policy are in addition to fees paid to Councillors, as set by Council and determined by the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal as per Section 241 of the Local Government Act 1993 (Act) and reviewed annually.

The purpose of this Policy is to ensure that City of Newcastle (CN) handles Customer
Complaints fairly, efficiently and effectively by responding in a timely, consistent and cost-effective way to issues raised by members of the public making a Customer Complaint; boosting public confidence and perception of the quality of the services provided by CN; and using complaint information to generate insights and inform quality improvements in services, information, and Customer Complaint handling.

The policy provides guidance on appropriate, effective and timely processes for Councillors to obtain information and ensures an appropriate level of interaction between Councillors and CN Officers.
