Bold new contemporary circus from Circa

19 July 2017

Australia’s most acclaimed circus company Circa (OPUS, The Return, Wunderkammer and “S”) is coming to Newcastle's Civic Theatre, with a bold new acrobatic work, Landscape with Monsters, presented as part of Civic Season 2017.

Circa is world-renowned for producing exquisite and heart-stopping theatre. Landscape with Monsters is a bold new acrobatic work infused with objects, video art and soundscapes, a physical symphony to the joyous complexity of being human. Created in response to evolving industrial landscapes, this bold new show explores how different landscapes are imprinted onto our bodies and how they are carried with us, exploring the emotional highs and lows of places and people faced with uncertainty.

Wooden boxes, ladders that reach the sky and an industrial aesthetic set the scene for this epic theatrical poem where the tension between bodies and objects meet. Risk and suspense is relieved with joy and humour. Daring and optimistic, with intense physicality and beauty, Landscape with Monsters is a thrilling ride for the audience and an elegy to the place we call home.

“…a rare work, as thought-provoking as it is heart-stopping.”
