Newcastle 2040 - it's our future

Newcastle 2040 is City of Newcastle's (CN) Community Strategic Plan (CSP). It is the highest level of strategic planning undertaken by CN and sets out a 10-year roadmap identifying our community's vision and aspirations for Newcastle.

Newcastle 2040 is a shared community vision, developed as a guide to inform policies, strategies, plans and actions throughout the city for the next 10+ years. With direct input from a wide cross-section of the community, it represents what we value in our city and what we want to prioritise. We will be a better city in 2040 thanks to the input and insight of the community members who contributed their time to this planning process.

During 2024 and 2025, we've been reviewing our current CSP - Newcastle 2040.  We listened to your aspirations for the future of Newcastle, and we have updated our CSP to ensure we're heading in the right direction towards a city that we can all be proud of.

Integrated Planning and Reporting

Newcastle 2040 is part of our Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) documentation. IP&R legislation was introduced by the NSW State Government in 2013 and sets requirements for all councils to lead the development of long term plans for their city, detailing community aspirations and strategic directions.
