Gregson Park Playspace

We are delivering a new inclusive playspace at Hamilton's much-loved Gregson Park.

Following extensive consultation with the community, schools and focus groups, Council adopted the Gregson Park Masterplan and associated Heritage Places Plan of Management in 2021.

The vision for Gregson Park includes a new inclusive playground enriched with traditional indigenous elements in line with the adopted Gregson Park Masterplan.

Works to be completed

The new playspace for Hamilton's most historic park will feature a variety of traditional play equipment, as well as a range of accessible and nature-based play options, with traditional Indigenous elements including a yarning circle to encourage knowledge sharing, and a bush tucker garden to enrich learning and awareness of native edible plants.

Additional shade, a water feature, formal and informal seating, and footbridges will also feature, complemented by an upgraded, accessible amenities building and new covered picnic area to ensure the park is an inclusive place for all.

Next steps

Works are now underway to deliver the new playspace and amenities at Gregson Park.

Creation of the new playspace will take place with minimal disruption to the use of the rest of the park, and weather permitting the new playground and amenities will be open to the public by October 2024

During construction temporary amenities will be installed within the park for public use. With over 116 playgrounds across our city, we encourage our community to explore a nearby park whilst we deliver a significant element of our adopted Gregson Park Masterplan.
