Johnson Park, Tarro Reserve & Pat Jordan field upgrades

Level the Playing Field Grant Funded Projects

Funded by City of Newcastle and the NSW Government’s Level the Playing Field Program, Tarro Reserve, Johnson Park at Lambton and Pat Jordan at Carrington will share in more than $3.3 million worth of upgrades.

The Level the Playing Field Program aims to revive sport facilities by providing new or upgrading existing sport facilities, amenities, and sporting fields. Funding will also support the provision of new and upgraded lighting that will enable more people including women and girls to train and compete in sport in a safe and inclusive environment.

Works to be completed

The projects will see Tarro Reserve and Johnson Park at Lambton receive new amenities buildings with female friendly change rooms, an accessible toilet, canteen, referees' room and storage. We will work closely with key sporting user groups to finalise the designs of the amenity buildings.

New LED floodlighting that meets modern standards for training and matches will be installed at Johnson Park and Pat Jordan Oval at Carrington.

Additional improvements to Johnson Park will include drainage improvements and relocation and upgrade of the existing playground to ensure the park is designed to consider how all our users enjoy the park.

Next steps

Preliminary work has begun on Johnson Park at Lambton, with work on the upgrade at Carrington expected to start in September 2024.

Construction of the new amenities at Tarro will take place in 2025.
