Maryland Fenced Off-Leash Dog Park Stage One Works
The Dogs in Open Space Plan (2019) identified the need to enhance existing off-leash areas and investigate potential opportunities for fenced dog areas within the Newcastle LGA.
The Dogs in Open Space Plan specifically recommended investigating the potential to integrate a fenced off-leash area at Maryland Drive Reserve as part of the Maryland Creek realignment design.
We asked the community for feedback on the Maryland Dog Park draft Concept Plan in late 2022. We've now finalised the concept plan, guided by input from the community. View the Have Your Say page for more information.
Stage 1 works
We have officially opened the city's second fully fenced off-leash dog park as Stage 1 works at Maryland are delivered.
The newly opened facility located at Maryland Drive Reserve features a dog bubbler, shelter with seating, informal sandstone garden beds, and extensive landscaping including trees for shade.
The existing off-leash dog area adjacent to the new fully-fenced zone will also be retained.
A future second stage will feature an additional off-leash area to separate large and small dogs, additional seating and landscaping as well as a formalised car park with accessible parking.
