Shortland Esplanade embankment stabilisation

HeroImage

We are improving public safety by restabilising two sections of the embankment along Shortland Esplanade (below Fort Drive) near Nobbys Beach kiosk (Swell Cafe) and opposite the Cowrie Hole.

What does this project involve?

Stage one involves 'soil nailing' in both locations to reinforce the embankment ahead of Stage two, construction of retaining walls.

This project will deliver the following improvements:

  • Increased stability of affected sites with soil nailing to reinforce and strengthen the existing embankment
  • Construction of new concrete piled retaining walls to stabilise the embankment
  • Revegetation along the embankment to help with sediment control
  • Improved stormwater controls to reduce the risk of future landslips.
