Water heating upgrades across our inland pool network

Our city’s much-loved inland pool network attract more than 320,000 visitors every year.

To ensure our pools continue to meet the expectations and evolving needs of our community members, sporting clubs and visitors we are planning water heating upgrades for Wallsend and Mayfield Swimming Centres.

Works to be completed

Due to the aging and inefficient solar thermal heating systems at Mayfield and Wallsend swimming centres, we are investing in new rooftop solar thermal matting and heat pumps. The investment will deliver warmer water for our patrons and ensure the highly valued recreational facilities can continue to be enjoyed during the cooler months of the swimming season.

When will the heating upgrades begin?

Installation of heat pumps will be undertaken during operation of the pool without impacting use of the pool or the current heating system.

Mayfield Swimming Centre (Installation of heat pumps only):

Construction Commencement: November 2023
Construction Completion: June 2024

Wallsend Swimming Centre (Installation of heat pumps only):

Construction Commencement: January 2024
Construction Completion: July 2024
