If your cat or dog has sadly passed away, you must notify the relevant authorities within 28 days.
To arrange this, either:
- Update your pet's status on the NSW Pet Registry to 'deceased', or
- Complete the below online form so that we can update the register on your behalf.

Privacy Statement
Purpose: We will use this information to update the NSW Pet Registry.
Intended recipients: Authorised City of Newcastle Officers.
Supply: The information provided is required for the City of Newcastle officer to update the NSW Pet Registry. It is a requirement of the Companion Animals Act 1998 that the owner must notify within 28 days of their pet's passing.
Consequence of non-provision: Your pet's registration will still appear as current and NSW Councils may contact you regarding the registration status.
Storage and security: Information will be stored in accordance with City of Newcastle’s Records Management Policy.
