Parkland and Recreation Strategy
Council's Parkland and Recreation Strategy guides the ongoing sustainable provision of parkland and recreation facilities for current and future communities.
We have a diverse range of open spaces, recreation and sporting facilities which support the community's strong sport and recreation lifestyle. These spaces include parklands, reserves, beaches, sportsgrounds and other public lands.
To guide the ongoing sustainable provision of parkland and recreation facilities for current and future communities, a Parkland and Recreation Strategy has been developed. Adopted by Council in March 2014, the Parkland and Recreation Strategy aims to ensure Newcastle has a network of open spaces and recreation facilities that provide for a diverse range of activities, create opportunities for community members to meet and connect with one another and promote people's health, happiness and wellbeing.
The Parkland and Recreation Strategy is one of the key strategic document aimed at ensuring our actions help to create 'Vibrant and Activated Public Places' a key strategic direction expressed by the community during the development of Newcastle 2030 - Community Strategic Plan.
The Parkland and Recreation Strategy contains two components.
The Strategy is focused on providing a clear statement of the issues, objectives and actions required to achieve the vision for parkland and recreation in Newcastle. An action plan supports the strategy and provides priorities, timeframes and responsibilities to implement the plan. The strategy is the key component of the Parkland and Recreation Strategy and can be read as a stand alone document.
The background and appendices contains the supporting information that was used to prepare the strategy.
